A large scale project, managing Booking.com’s Amsterdam office refurbishment. The Circular Hub helped bring a more circular approach to the workplace, giving existing furniture and materials a new lease of life rather than defaulting to replacement, which included office chairs and more than 1,200 duo workspaces.

Introduction

By carefully assessing, recovering and reusing suitable pieces, the project helped reduce unnecessary waste while retaining the quality, character and functionality expected of a contemporary workplace.

The Circular Hub played a key role in adapting this furniture to the new workplace: 844 existing duo workspaces were reconfigured, with tabletops converted from 1600 × 800mm to bespoke 1400 × 800mm and 1350 × 800mm formats, while new upholstered screens helped integrate the refurbished workstations into the architects’ interior design.

The result was a more considered refurbishment that balanced design and practicality with responsible material choices — demonstrating how circular thinking can be integrated into a major workplace project without compromising on the finished environment.

Alongside this, 2,350 specially designed acoustic screens were produced to meet the project’s circularity requirements.

The result is a striking example of how existing workplace assets can be intelligently adapted rather than discarded — extending their useful life while reducing the carbon impact associated with replacing them with new furniture.
